Overview

Teachers work with a variety of students. In addition, teachers must collaborate with special education personnel. Those who pursue the Learning Behavior Specialist I minor alongside their teaching major will be better prepared to serve all students in their classroom and work with the special education teachers in their district.

Point of Pride

This minor sequence is designed to allow students to graduate on time. Classes are blocked for those in the minor so students take classes alongside others in the minor program. Those with the minor are more competitive in the job market

Why study Learning Behavior Specialist I?

Pursuing a minor in special education greatly enhances the educational journey of our non-Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS I) majors in all concentrations across the university.

By successfully completing courses within their education field of study and recommended minor courses, teacher candidates broaden their academic horizons and become eligible to pursue an LBS I endorsement. This integrated approach fosters a well-rounded and conscious commitment to an inclusive and diverse education producing exceptionally well-prepared and highly effective teachers.

How to Apply

Application Information

Minors can only be declared by current Illinois State students. Current students can use theÌýÌýtool onÌý.

Eligibility requirements: Must be enrolled in a teacher education majors; 24 earned credit hours at the time of application; 3.0 minimum GPA; Completion of SED 101 with a C or better or enrollment in SED 101 at the time of application.

Application Period

The LBS I minor has limited enrollment, and applicants who meet program eligibility requirements will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the program is full. ÌýThe application portal opens on September 15th at 12:01 am and closes on October 1st at 11:59 pm.
